Happy National Pet Day!

April 11 has been National Pet Day since 2005. Petday.usa explains more about the purpose of this holiday.

National Pet Day was founded in 2005 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert & Colleen Paige, who also founded National Dog Day, National Puppy Day and National Cat Day {among others} to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters all across the nation. Almost any non-exotic animal you can think of, from dogs and cats, to small animals, farm, reptile and avian...there are pets who need your love.MILLIONS of pets die in U.S. shelters every single day. At this very moment, while you're reading this, beautiful, viable animals are dying. It's a painful reality but we must not give up hope to change it.
So how can you help?First, if you've been thinking about adopting a pet today might just be a great day to do just that! Remember, if you adopt from City Dog Rescue here in DC then you will get a discount on pet sitting services. If you already have a pet then you can help in other ways, too. For example, you could choose to make a small donation to your local animal shelter today. Or you could help raise awareness about why exotic animals should be left in the wild instead of taken home as "pets." You could also take the time to just do something special with your own beloved pet! However you choose to celebrate National Pet Day we peeps are here to salute great pet parents and animal supporters everywhere!
