Cookouts are potentially dangerous for curious pets; we don’t want that to happen! Here are some pet safety tips to keep them away from harm:
MIND THE COOKOUT FOOD
There are lots of food that may cause harm to your pet. Some food that are harmless to us, may be toxic for them. Remember to bring some food and treats for your pet to keep them satiated and happy.
PROTECT THEM FROM THE SUN
Pets can suffer ill effects from too much sun exposure just as we humans do. Having fresh water around for your pet is very advisable; never leave your pet in a car unattended; and, provide a shady place for your pet. Be on the lookout for signs of heatstroke.
CLEAN UP QUICKLY
Leftover food can be really tempting for our pets to eat. We should clean them up as soon as possible to avoid accidents we don’t want to happen. Bones can obstruct their airway or tear their intestinal tract easily. Indigestible items can cause serious blockage in pets that may require surgery.
INSECT REPELLANTS
Citronella candles, insect repellant lotions, zappers and bug sprays are harmful for your pet. Make sure to get an insect repellant that is made for pets and apply only this to your pet. Make sure to keep your insect repellant instruments away from your pets.
MIND YOUR ALCOHOL
This may mean in different ways but never give alcohol to your pet or never leave your alcohol unattended. Your pets can be seriously ill when they ingest alcohol.
GIVE YOUR PET THE RIGHT COLLAR
Cookouts are usually open and your pets can easily slip out of the fence or jump off the gate without you knowing. It is very advisable to provide a proper ID for your pet. In case your pet escapes or gets lost, you have more chances that someone else will pick your pet up and bring them back to you. Equipping them with proper ID tags with your information on it is helpful but having your pet outfitted with a microchip is your best bet in being reunited should your pet become lost.
