Petco Pulls Chinese Treats

In previous posts we've talkd about the dangers of buying pet treats made in China. Now, if you visit Petco, you won't even have to check the label to make sure that you're avoiding these hazardous treats. This national pet retailer has become the very first to ban Chinese treats from their stores.Their main competitor is PetSmart, Inc., and PetSmart has vowed to get the Chinese food and treats out of their 1,300 stores by March, as well. You can probably expect other pet companies to start following suit, but these are the two major ones.

The FDA targeted the treats after receiving more than 4,800 complaints of pet illnesses, including the deaths, after pets ate chicken, duck, or sweet potato jerky treats from China.There were 24 animal food recalls and withdrawwals in 2014, according to the FDA's website.-App.com

Some of the Chinese pet foods have been just as suspect as the pet treats. For example, the App.com article cited above also mentions that one lady found metal fragments in her dog's food.The removal of these foods and treats is a very positive development, one that will save the lives of many pets.
