Tainted Treats Endanger Some Dogs

There's an FDA warning about tainted jerky treats out of China that all our peeps need to be aware of. Nearly 600 dogs have died as a result of injesting these bad treats, though the FDA isn't entirely sure what the problem is. New York Daily News is currently carrying the story. They report 3,600 sick pets in addition to the 600 dead.

FDA officials are stumped by the exact cause of the illnesses, despite thousands of tests for contaminants and visits to the pet treat manufacturers in China, where the contaminated pet goodies are said to be coming from."This is one of the most elusive and mysterious outbreaks we've encountered," Dr. Bernadette Dunham, the agency's veterinary medical chief, said in a statement.Animal lovers were urged to watch out for pets suffering decreased appetite, sluggishness, vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms after snacking on jerky tenders, and report any cases to their state's FDA consumer complaint coordinator.
For the time being it may be best to avoid jerky treats altogether. Keep watching the Pet Peeps blog for more information about how to keep your pet safe and healthy!
